PROJECT TYPE

Feature Lighting

As part of the Victorian Government and City of Melbourne’s $12M Cultural Precinct Enhancement Program, High Access Cabling were successful in tendering for the supply and installation of the Lonsdale Street Gateway Lighting Feature in the heart of Melbourne’s Greek precinct.

Located on the corner of Lonsdale and Russell Streets, the project saw the installation of a 15m by 15m catenary net suspended seven metres above the intersection, fitted with 144 colour changing light fittings.

The works involved installing four 10m tall support poles at the corners of the net in the median strips on both roads. The installation of the net itself involved closing the intersection, which due to the high traffic use on these roads, required the work to be completed in the shortest time possible to reduce impact on traffic.

The project was launched on 17 October 2011 and continues to be lit up in the Greek colours of white and blue every night.
